Haleshi Mahadev is the most sacred pilgrimage site of eastern Nepal. This temple is located in a mysterious cave on a hill top. According to mythology Lord Shiva hid in this cave to save from the demon Bashmasur who was granted boon of killing any person he wanted by Shiva. After the demon was killed with the help of slyness mind of Lord Vishnu Shiva along with his consort Parvati made this caves as their abode. This cave is also holy site for Buddhists. They believe that Guru Padmasambhava, the second Buddha meditated here for three months. He along with his consort made a ritual here for achieving nirvana. There are three caves on the hill top that represent three eyes of Lord Shiva. The first cave in which lies the image of Shiva is called Haleshwar Mahadev and constitutes the main section of the temple. In the second cave there is an image of Nandi. And in the third cave the image of Bhairav lies. After going down 25 to 30 steps at the walls of the cliff there is a big red stone which is worshiped as Gaura Parbata. It is believed the caves to be in existence since 6000 years.

Itinerary

Option I: Halesi Mahadev Darshan (3 Nights 4 Days)

Day 01: Upon arrival in Kathmandu transfer to Hotel. If time permits evening visit to Pashupatinath temple and see arati and bhajan. Overnight at hotel
Day 02: Sightseeing tour of Bouddha Nath, Budhanilkantha (Jal Narayan) and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Overnight at hotel
Day 03: Morning transfer to Kathmandu Airport. Fly to Halesi Mahadev by Helicopter. After Darshan / worship (Puja) of Haleshi Mahadev and look around fly back to Kathmandu. Transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day on your own. Overnight at hotel
Day 04: Departure to your onward Destination

Option II: Halesi Mahadev Darshan (5 Nights 6 Days)

Day 01: Upon arrival in Kathmandu transfer to Hotel. If time permits evening visit to Pashupatinath temple and see arati and bhajan. Overnight at hotel

Day 03: Morning transfer to Kathmandu Airport. Fly to Lamidanda by domestic flight. Upon arrive in Lamidanda walk to Halesi (5 hrs. Overnight at lodge
Day 04: Darshan of Halesi Mahadev and visit surroundings. Walk back to Lamidanda. Overnight at Lodge
Day 05: Fly back from Lamidanda to Kathmandu. Transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day on your own. Overnight at hotel
Day 06: Departure to your onward Destination
