POTALA PALACE

The Potala Palace above Lhasa City acts as Tibet’s regional landmark, which is the principal draw card for international visitors. The massive 13 – storeyed building was the highest building in Lhasa until the early period of the present century. It looks incredibly grand from the distance and can be viewed from various places around the town. The nation’s supreme treasure, the palace dates back to the 7th century A.D.

SERA MONASTERY

At the foot of the Wuze Hill in Sera to the north of Lhasa, the Sera Monastery is one of the three most renowned monasteries in Lhasa and one of the six most revered of the Gelug Sect of Buddhism in Tibet. It was built by one of the disciples of Zonggaba in 1419.

JOKHANG AND THE BARKHOR

Jokhang, the most holy temple in Tibet, translates as “Buddha’s House” in the Tibetan language. It is believed that the main statue enshrined within was made by Buddha Sakyamuni himself during his lifetime. The Jokhang Temple is where Tibet’s spititual and secular lifestyles converge. Here you can meet people from all the tribes in the Tibetan Plateau. The surrounding market is called Barkhor, to which the country folk and drawn, not just to shop, but to socialize as well.

DREPUNG MONASTERY

On the slope of the Wuze Hill, five kilometers northwest of Lhasa, the Drepung Monastery was built in 1416 and is the largest of the monasteries of the Gekug Sect. It houses plenty of historical and cultural artifacts and Buddhist Literary classics.

1 ARRIVE IN LHASA

Direct Fly from Bombay to Main Land China then Fly to Lhasa

After arrival you will be welcome by guide and transfer to Hotel

Clients may view the Yarlung Tsangpo River / Brahmaputra River (the Longest and largest river in Tibet) and Lhasa River on their way to Lhasa.

Rest day at Lhasa for acclimatization for high altitude. If you feel good to go out, then you can go to the Potala Square, where you will enjoy the fountain with different colors and get amazing photos of the Potala and around.

2 LHASA TOUR – POTALA PALACE, JHOKANG TEMPLE & BARKHOR STREET

After Breakfast at Hotel, Today’s tour will first bring you to the Potala Palace which is the winter palace of the Dalai Lama. It was put to use since the 7th Century by the 33rd great king of Tibet. The most valuable collections of Potala Palace are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and meditation Cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.

Lunch during sightseeing by own at Local Restaurant

After lunch, tourists head to Jokhang temple which was founded by the 33rd great king of Tibet in the 7th century. Inside you can see the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve. Outside, you can see pilgrims making prostrating in front of Jokhang Temple. Around the temple is Barkhor Street, where you can do kora (a religious circle of a building or mountain) with pilgrims and locals, and explore the old market.

3 LHASA TOUR – DADONG VILLAGE & SERA MONASTERY

In the morning, you are going to visit Dadong Village, the most beautiful village in Lhasa. Located 25 kilometers southwest of Lhasa downtown, Dadong Village is a well-protected ancient Tibetan village that surrounded by valleys. After arriving, you will visit the Nyimatang Monastery (built in the 11th century), take a light walk in the village, and see what rural life in Lhasa is like. You will also visit a local Tibetan family.

In the afternoon, you will visit Sera Monastery, which is one of the ‘great three’ Gelug monasteries of Tibet. The hot attraction is the Monks debate at around 3-5 in the afternoon. In addition, you can tour the Tibetan religious scripture printing house. Inside the monastery, you can see three sand Mandalas and the colorful Rock Painting of Buddha.

4 LHASA TO SHIGATSE : YAMDRROK LAKE & KAROLA GLACERS ,GYANTSE MONATSRY & KUMBUM STUPA

Today we will travel on some of the most beautiful roads in Tibet on our drive to Shigatse.

Be prepared to take photos of the breathtaking views as we go up to the highest point of the day – Kamba La Pass (almost 4,800 meters / 15,750 ft).

Our next stop will be at Yamdrok Lake. It is one of the holy lakes in Tibet, and it is famous for its turquoise colored water. After that, we will head towards Gyantse. On the way there, we will make a stop to see the spectacular Karola glaciers.

We will visit the monastery and the biggest stupa at Gyantse.

Finally, we will reach Shigatse late in the evening and stay there overnight.

5 DRIVING TO THE EVEREST RONGBUK MONASTERY

After breakfast you will be driving through towering mountain ranges, and going through several high passes and Everest viewpoints. We will reach a tent camp near the Everest Base Camp in the evening.

Depending on the traffic and weather conditions, we might have time to visit the Rongbuk Monastery – the highest monastery in the world.

We will stay in a tent for the night. You can order dinner and breakfast there as there is an English menu available.

6 DRIVING BACK TO SHIAGTSE

After Breakfast at Hotel depending on the weather conditions from the previous day, we might finish some of the activities that we were not able to do yesterday. After breakfast, we will head back to Shigatse.
